A HARARE  couple has appeared before the courts facing fraud charges after allegedly forging documents to secure a reduction in maintenance fees owed to the husband’s first wife.

The accused, Simbarashe Mushore and his wife, Tapiwa Njerama, appeared before magistrate Mrs Ethel Chichera and were granted bail.

Prosecutor Mr Takudzwa Jambawu alleged that between August 2025 and September 4, 2025, at ZRP Harare Central Police Station, Mushore and Njerama conspired to forge the signature of 56-year-old Agnes Samuriwo, Mushore’s former wife.

Njerama allegedly impersonated Samuriwo by signing the Civil Court maintenance summons.

The couple then presented the forged summons to the Civil Court, claiming that Samuriwo had been properly served and was aware of the court proceedings for a downward variation of the maintenance order.

On the scheduled court date, Samuriwo did not appear, leading to a default judgment in favour of Mushore, which reduced the maintenance fees he was required to pay.
