A Headlands couple that was fighting and on the verge of having a divorce have reconciled after undergoing counselling at Chief Makoni’s court.
Sibongile Mugwambi had dragged her husband, Simon Gono, to the court, demanding to get a share of the property they have accumulated in their marriage.
Mugwambi told the court that Gono is in the habit of selling their livestock without consulting her and going on to squander the money alone.
She also said Gono had divorced her, although they are still living together and get intimate from time to time.
“Gono told me that he no longer loves me and gave me a divorce token. During the course of our marriage, we acquired a house in Marondera, a plot in Mugadza Village, livestock and household goods. Despite the divorce token, we are still staying together and get intimate.
“My husband is in the habiting of selling our cattle without my knowledge and squanders the proceeds alone.
“I want the court to award me the Marondera home, household furniture and an equal share of the cattle,” said Mugwambi.
In response, Gono said he wants Mugwambi to get everything so that he starts afresh.
He denied divorcing her.
“Let her take everything, I will start my life afresh.
“I never divorced her because we are staying together and enjoying our conjugal rights as a couple.
“I was injured recently and sold some cattle to meet my medical expenses,” Gono told the court.
In its ruling, the court said the couple was in desperate need of counselling to save their marriage.
“Communication is key in marriage and it has been lacking in yours.
“There is nothing that warrants divorce or the sharing of property in this case. You are instructed to go for a counselling session,” ruled the court.
After the counselling session conducted by Chief Makoni’s wife, the couple withdrew the court case.
