Anna Mudyiwa (29) and Kennedy Mukubvu (38) were jointly charged when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Walter Chikwana. The pair, who pleaded not guilty to theft of trust property charges, were remanded out of custody to October 4 this year on US$100 bail each.
Prosecutor Mr Editor Mavuto alleges that the couple connived and stole money and generators from Heinz Taube Electronics represented by its director, Mrs Bharati Kidia. In pursuit of their plan, Mukubvu gave Mudyiwa fictitious receipt books which were used at Heinz as daily payment receipts to customers who paid for generators between September 2010 and January 2011, the court heard.
It is the State’s case that on September 13 last year, Mudyiwa received money for a generator, which she receipted with one of the fake receipts. She did not surrender the money to the company but converted it to her own use, it is alleged. The court further heard that during the said period, Mudyiwa made more than 20 transactions using the fake receipts, leading to Heinz losing US$93 646. The matter came to light after several customers complained about the generators and upon investigation the fake receipts were discovered.
