AN argument between a Harare couple over how their child died has spilled into court.
The matter came to light when Barbra Musambo sought a protection order against her violent husband, Chatero Musambo, at the Harare Civil Court yesterday.
Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted Barbara the order after she convinced the court that Chatero was in the habit of physically and verbally abusing her.
“Our child committed suicide last year in September and he claims it’s a spirit from my clan. He physically and verbally abuses me and now I am living in fear.
“He even evicted me from our matrimonial home and he does not give me money for medication.”
Chatero said all the allegations were based on lies.
“I do oppose the application because it’s based on lies. I think my wife here is mentally sick. She is the one who brought people who told her I am a witch. I never chased her, but she moved out on her own.
“As for the allegations of killing our child, when our child died, she left a note that said she is the one who advised her to have an abortion. That’s how she died,” he said.
However, magistrate Chibindi did not buy Chatero’s story and ordered him not to assault, insult or evict his wife.
