Court seeks Arabic interpreter

The Harare magistrates’ court says it is seeking an Arabic-speaking interpreter during court proceedings to help non-English speaking Egyptians facing charges of staying in the country without proper travel documents. The trial of five Egyptians — Beshir Fawzi Ramadan Hussen (36), Ahmed Mohamed Hamada Ibrahim Ahmed (19), Mahamed Abdel Wahab Abdelhamid Torky (33), Hesham Aly Eboraey Ramadan (32) and Walid Adelkarim Alemam Fouda (32) — failed to proceed before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe because of the language barrier.

The five Egyptians are facing allegations of entering and staying in the country without permits and possessing forged immigration date stamps.

They were remanded in custody to August 8.
