HARARE magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo has set June 9 as the trial date for a contempt of court case involving two Chinese business partners locked in a dispute over property ownership.
Recently, a warrant of arrest was issued against Chinese businesswoman Wenjing Cao, also known as Vicky, after she failed to appear in court to answer contempt of court charges.
The warrant has since been cancelled.
Cao, in this case, is being charged with three other people.
The case arises from a fallout between CAO and her business partner, Yuxin Zhang, also known as Jessie.
The two are equal shareholders and directors of Melon Bay Trading, the company operating Cosmopolitan Restaurant and Bar in Harare.
According to court papers, Cao and Zhang each hold a 50 per cent stake in Melon Bay Trading. The company operates from premises at Number 31 Fleetwood Road, which are owned by Zhang’s family trust, HNZ Family Trust.
Zhang alleges that the business was expected to remit rental payments to JC Delonix (Pvt) Ltd on behalf of the property owners, but claims the funds were collected and not forwarded to the trust.
She further alleges that a VIP conference room, previously a revenue-generating facility, was converted into a private office without her consent or a board resolution.
The dispute has since escalated, spilling into both criminal and civil courts, with multiple matters now before the Judiciary.
