A court has granted a protection order in favour of Patricia Manyangala against her husband for assaulting and insulting her.

Patricia appeared before Magistrate Meenal Narotham at Harare Civil Court yesterday seeking protection against her soon-to-be ex-husband Pride Mutizawafa for assaulting her.

During the court proceedings, Patricia said her husband started beating and insulting her after the death of their child, who was sick, accusing her of being responsible for his death. She also said he told her he does not love her anymore.

“He went to my parents’ house and told them that he doesn’t want me anymore,” she said.

“Whenever he is insulting me, he always says ‘your mother,’ of which I do not know what he would be insinuating. He also says that I know what happened to our child because my mother used to visit our house a lot when the child was sick.”

Patricia said Pride beats her and tells her that she cannot do anything to him because he is muscular.

“Whenever he beats me, he tells me that I cannot do anything to him because he goes to the gym,” she said.

Pride said Patricia and her mother are the ones who have wronged him.

“The problem between us is that my dead child’s clothes are at her mother’s place, but I want them at our house. I insulted her because she accused my grandmother of witchcraft, all because I visited her when she was sick, and unfortunately, my grandmother died today,” he said.

Patricia also argued that their deceased child’s clothes are at her parents’ house because he had said she should keep them.

“He said I should keep the child’s clothes because I am the one who gave birth to him, so I do not know why he wants them now,” she said.

The magistrate ordered Pride to stop assaulting and insulting Patricia and for Patricia to return the deceased child’s clothes.
