SECOND seed Nicolaas Scholtz got the better of Courtney Lock in yesterday’s first round of the Old Mutual ITF Futures tennis tournament at Harare Sports Club yesterday.
The South African dismissed Lock 6-1, 6-1 to book a place in today’s second round where he will face Scholtz.
“Playing against the Courtney is always difficult as he is very competitive but I just managed to get through it.
“I played well to beat him and I wanted to get points which I managed to do.
“I am now looking forward to tomorrow’s matches.
“I will just make sure I work on some weaknesses I picked out in today’s game. Playing as a second seed always come with a lot of pressure as you will need to progress.
“Young players are so difficult to beat but you just need to be humble and definitely the results will come,” said Scholtz.
Scholtz will now meet Anderson Reed of United States who beat Joshua Chetty 6-0, 6-3.
Mbonisi Ndimande booked his place in the next round by defeating Mehluli Sibanda 6-3, 6-3 on Monday.
The United States based 24-year-old Zimbabwean will now face Michael Grant, also of the United States.
Benjamin Lock also continued with his good run as he saw off the challenge of Samuel Bothwell 6-1, 6-0.
Lock will now meet Switzerland’s Vullnet Tashi who managed to dismiss Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe 6-2, 6-0.
