Diarrhoea claims 12

TWELVE people died of diarrhoea countrywide last week, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said yesterday. This brings the number of people who have died of diarrhoea in the first half of the year to 234 out of the 227 968 reported cases. According to the ministry weekly disease update, Manicaland is hardest hit.

The report says 8 536 cases of diarrhoea were reported last week.

“Of the reported cases 4 492 and no deaths were from the under five years of age,” read part of the report.

Out of the 12 reported deaths, two were in Mt Darwin in Mashonaland Central province, Binga district (1) and Umguza district (1) both in Matebeleland North province, Chivi district in Masvingo province (2), Mpilo Central Hospital (1), Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (1) and Chitungwiza Central Hospital (3). The provinces that reported the highest number of diarrhoea cases were Manicaland with 1 498 and Mash West 1 208.
