Courtois banned for Man City game

CHELSEA goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will miss their game at Manchester City after an appeal against his red card in the 2-2 draw with Swansea was rejected. The Belgium international, 23, was sent off for denying striker Bafetimbi Gomis a goalscoring chance during Saturday’s match at Stamford Bridge. The Football Association said Chelsea failed to prove referee Michael Oliver made “an obvious error”.

Asmir Begovic, a summer signing from Stoke, is set to deputise at City.

Blues manager Jose Mourinho had refused to discuss the dismissal after the match.
