TWO Bulawayo cousins who stayed in the same house have been arrested for allegedly bedding each other resulting in the girl falling pregnant. The 25-year-old man allegedly impregnated his 16-year-old cousin who is a Form 4 pupil at a local school. He would allegedly sneak into his cousin’s bedroom in the middle of the night on several occasions and the two would engage in sexual intercourse.

The two, whose parents are siblings, appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube facing a charge of having sexual intercourse within a prohibited degree of relationship.

They were not asked to plead and were remanded out of custody to August 27 while the State awaits the probation officer’s report.

Prosecuting, Tendai Binha said sometime in January this year the man sneaked into his cousin’s bedroom and the two engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse.

He said later in the same month, the juvenile missed her monthly period and bought a pregnancy test kit.

“She took the pregnancy test in the presence of her 25-year-old cousin and discovered that she was pregnant,” Binha said.

On an unknown date but in May, the court heard, the man sneaked into the girl’s bedroom and they had unprotected sexual intercourse again.

The matter came to light after the juvenile’s mother confronted her daughter about why she was not using the sanitary pads which she had bought for her.

Binha said the matter was reported to the police and the pair was arrested.

He said the girl was referred to hospital for medical attention and a medical report exhibited in court indicated that the juvenile was 36 weeks pregnant.
