ZIMBABWE’S Covid-19 cases reached the 30000 mark on Thursday after 639 new infections were recorded.
The country’s Covid-19 cases jumped to 30047 including 917 deaths, 19569 recoveries and 9561 active cases.
From the country’s active cases, 272 individuals were admitted at medical centres on Thursday needing medical attention.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care said 173 people had mild to moderate symptoms while 81 had severe symptoms while 18 were critical and admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.
Yesterday the country recorded 639 new infections and 38 deaths with most of the cases being recorded in Harare.
Harare still dominates Covid-19 infections and deaths as it yesterday recorded 293 cases and 14 deaths while Manicaland recorded the second highest cases with 83 new cases and four deaths.
Mashonaland East and Mashonland Central recorded five deaths each while Bulawayo recorded 42 infections and three deaths.
Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South recorded two deaths each while Masvingo and Midlands provinces were to only areas not to recorded any Covid-19 related deaths.
As the country battles to contain a spike in Covid-19 cases, members of the public have been challenged adhere to Covid-19 prevention measures.
The public has been warned to consider everyone they meet as a Covid-19 suspect as the virus is widespread across the country.
Covid-19 is indiscriminately claiming lives of ordinary and high ranking public officials with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo being the latest Government official to die due to the virus.
President Mnangagwa yesterday said Zimbabwe can survive the Covid-19 onslaught if citizens worked in unison in implementing prevention measures.
Government is set to recruit an addition 500 nurses as part of its measures to beef up the health sector which has not been spared from the virus.
Despite Government outlining Covid-19 prevention regulations, some members of the public are violating measures meant to protect them by not wearing masks, crowding which exposes them and others to the deadly virus.
Covid-19 has killed more than two million people globally while infections have surpassed 96 million.
