Covid-19 infections drop

THE number of Covid-19 cases recorded countrywide has dropped from mid-January to present, an indication that the situation is now under control, a senior Government official has said.

In the weekly statement, the national taskforce on Covid-19 urged the nation to continue adhering to Covid-19 health guidelines.

“The taskforce noted a decrease in the positivity rate from the peak in mid-January to present, a clear indication that the surge in cases is now coming under control,” said Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa.

“However, this should not be seen as a reason to throw caution to the wind, but for the nation to vigilantly adhere to Covid-19 protocols.”

There has also been a notable increase in arrests for flouting lockdown regulations.

“Fellow Zimbabweans, as a nation we cannot turn a blind eye to those around us who continue to flout Covid-19 regulations.

“The cumulative number of arrests countrywide for flouting Covid-19 regulations increased by 2 000 from 19188 the previous week to 21 647.

“Notable offenders include those who violate movement restrictions, gather unlawfully, fail to properly put on their masks and operate non-essential businesses.

“Once again, let us be reminded that Covid-19 regulations are there to reduce the risk of infection and flouting them not only puts the offender at risk but those around them.”
