A COWDRAY Park man is lucky to be alive after he was savagely attacked by four machete-brandishing thugs — all for just US$1!
Fortune Ncube (40), a grinding mill attendant at Entumbane Complex, found himself caught in a nightmare after knocking off from work around 6PM, on Monday. As he made his way home along a footpath flanked by tall grass, hell broke loose.
Two men appeared in front of him, greeting him casually. But before he could reply, two more ambushed him from behind. What followed was a horror show.
“They grabbed him and one of them struck him with a machete on the forehead,” said a source close to the incident. “They hit him on the head and shoulder. He dropped like a stone — bleeding heavily!”
The attackers hacked his palm and shoulder, leaving Ncube barely conscious. As he lay bleeding, the heartless robbers rifled through his pockets — finding only a single US dollar. That didn’t stop them. They fled into the darkness, leaving him for dead.
His desperate cries for help were heard by nearby residents, who rushed to his aid. He was taken to Luveve Police Station before being transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Police confirmed the chilling incident.
“Yes, we received a report of a man who was attacked by four unknown assailants while walking along a footpath,” said Bulawayo acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector, Nomalanga Msebele.
“We urge the public to avoid using isolated footpaths, especially at night. It makes them vulnerable to criminals.”
Efforts to speak to Ncube were fruitless — he was reportedly undergoing surgery in the theatre.
Four thugs. One dollar. A near-death attack. Cowdray Park residents are now living in fear, wondering: who’s next?
