Crackdown on Drug Peddlers Continues at Beitbridge Border

Police in Beitbridge have intercepted a truck and arrested a foreign national, Abraham Banda, for unlawful possession of an assortment of prohibited cough syrups and mbanje, as the crackdown on drug peddling gains momentum.
In a statement, police said the suspect was arrested on Thursday. He was found with 16 boxes of Benylin Cough Syrup and 19 cobs of dagga weighing approximately 150 kilogrammes.

“The dagga was concealed in sulphur tonne bags. Similarly, Brighton Bimha (30) and Magret Hove (43) were arrested at Beitbridge border post for unlawful possession of approximately eight kilogrammes of dagga,” said the police.
In a related case, Prince Kamangila (37) and Melinda Pfumisi (40) were arrested in Harare on the same day in connection with unlawful possession of five kilogrammes of dagga.
Through the National Committee on Drugs and Substance Abuse, the government is implementing a raft of measures to curb drug smuggling, peddling, and abuse.
