Party members said primary elections would be held in two months.
They said the Ms Khumalo faction consisted of the district chairperson, Mr Dominic Shumba, and the district secretary Mr Silas Chigora.
“The other faction is led by the district organising secretary, Mr Eddious Shumba, who is reportedly on Mr Kambarami’s side.
“The war between the two camps ensued when Mr Kambarami declared that he wanted to contest Ms Khumalo in the primary elections to be held very soon,” said a party member.
He said the conflict was already known by the provincial leaders.
“According to the party’s constitution only the district organising secretary is responsible for filling gaps or forming structures, but on one occasion the secretary conducted the election after Honourable Khumalo had spent huge sums of money on beer for the voters,” said the source.
Contacted for comment Ms Khumalo and Mr Kambarami confirmed that there were divisions pitting the two of them, but declined to shed more light.
“I don’t have a comment on that,” said Ms Khumalo.
Mr Kambarami said he was not comfortable discussing the matter, as he needed more time to look into it.
“I will talk about it, but not now,” said Mr Kambarami.
The district organising secretary admitted that there were serious divisions that were threatening the constituency.
“Executive problems are now the order of the day and we are waiting for the province to act and come in and nullify the illegal structures and bring sanity to Bulawayo East,” said Mr Shumba.
