Cranborne stun Morgan

weekend.
Hosts Morgan lost both matches in the U-17 and U-20 age groups to their perennial rivals.
Cranborne got their goals through Everson Feremba in the 20th minute before man-of-the-match Abraham Taona scored the winner in the 90th minute.
midfielder Donald Dzvinyai was given his marching orders in the 38th minute for headbutting a Morgan player. In the U-17 tie Cranborne beat Morgan 3-0 with goals coming from Lloyd Chiutare in the 10th minute, Phillip Mudhliwa in the 25th minute and Tawanda Mugadza in the 50th minute.
The second round of the zonal competition, whose finals will be held in September at Gilford High, rolled into life two weeks ago with Cranborne winning their first game 5-0 against Epworth. Cranborne senior master Jonathan Shumba Simbanegavi expects his team to continue with their winning streak.
“I think we herding for the zonal championships and we look forward to winning the Coca-Cola championships. “History shows that we have the ability to produce good players who can even play for the national team.
“The best game will be against seasoned campaigners Lord Malvern,” said Simbanegavi.
The Cranborne school journalist Moses Mareya also noted that his school was turning into a major force again. “I can see our school becoming a powerhouse in every sporting discipline this season,” Mareya said.
Meanwhile, Sprouting Football Club have revived their partnership with Cranborne and donated a soccer kit to the Harare school on Monday.
The club was in partnership with the school from 2004 to 2007. Calvin Nyazema, the manager of Sprouting, pledged to continue working with the school.
“This is corporate goodwill from the company and we are happy to be associated with some players of the history-making Class of 2006 soccer team who are here.
“The school has managed to produce talent, especially for the Under-20 team. I am glad that we have managed to produce top-class players from this school and I hope the kit will go a long way in exposing more talent,” Nyazema said.
Cranborne Boys High School headmaster Juru Matsika thanked the former players who graced the occasion.
“It is with great pleasure that I am accepting this kit by our old sponsors Sprouting Club on behalf of the school and the ministry.
“The kit consists of 15 infield football jerseys and one goalkeeper’s jersey. We are proud that we have managed to produce good players who are now playing in the Premier League and they took this opportunity to give back to their school.
“We are proud of Archford Gutu, who was very popular as a sportsperson, and now is playing in the national team.
“We urge some former students to emulate what these guys have done and we are willing to get the much-needed support from our former students,” Matsika said.
The Class of 2006 team included Yasser Chapfika, who is now playing for Kiglon, and Young Warriors’ goalkeeper Francis Nicho, who is understudy to Marlon Jani at Motor Action, who attended the ceremony. The 2006 team is still rated as the best football team Cranborne has produced.
