Two Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement extension officers in the Midlands died on the spot when their motorbike was hit from behind by a speeding Nissan Navara on Monday evening, police have confirmed.

National traffic police spokesman Inspector Tigere Chigome said the accident occurred on Monday near Hunters Business Centre along the Gweru-Kwekwe Road. The deceased have been identified as Douglas Bikani (35) and his workmate Shillah Fari (33). Insp Chigome said the two were on duty.

“Two male and female adults employed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation (sic) were on duty driving towards Gweru from Kwekwe. Upon approaching the 243km peg, they were hit from behind by a Nisan Navara which was travelling in the same direction.

“The driver of the motorcycle lost control and it veered, killing the two on the spot,” he said.

He said the deceased were taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem. The police spokesman said the driver of the Nissan Navara was injured in the accident.
