Create networks to uplift each other, women urged

Sunday Mail Reporter

WOMEN in leadership positions should use their influence to create networks that uplift fellow females, Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) Southern Africa regional director, Mrs Inge Herbert, has said.

Speaking at the launch of FNF’s study titled “Digital Surveillance Technologies in Zambia and Zimbabwe: A Threat to Our Freedoms?” Mrs Herbert said there is insufficient representation of women in organisations.

“All over the world, not only in Zimbabwe, women are not represented sufficiently in organisations, especially in higher positions,” she said.

“However, there are some women who have already made it. They must be in solidarity with those that are growing and be their mentors. Men have networks and they help each other. We must do the same by looking at the younger ones and drag them up to top positions,”

FNF programme manager Mrs Fungisai Sithole said the study seeks to interrogate contemporary issues in relation to the digital world.

“The event is important to our foundation because we bring people we have been working with, and the whole idea is to discuss issues that are affecting the world and Zimbabwe as well.

“It is a motivational event meant for us to appreciate the beauty in our country but also pointing out the things that need to be improved as a nation. We, as a foundation, are there to give hope, trust and to have faith in our own country,” she said.
