AT 12, South Africa-based creative fashion designer, Evelyn Mubochwa, is already an instant hit.
She lit the stage at the just-ended Zimbabwe Fashion Week in Victoria Falls with her amazing garments.
During the fashion fete, she also won the praise from US-based fashion guru, Priscilla Chigariro.
Early this week, she was in Maputo, Mozambique, showcasing her designs at the Mozambican Fashion Week.
Before the visit to Mozambique, she dressed South Africa’s new gospel find, Ndumiso Zungu, 9, at the Crown Gospel Awards.
Ndumiso is the son of Thinah Zungu, a top South African gospel artist, who is following in his father’s footsteps.
She calls her designs Afro Jumbo.
“The future inspires my collection and the advice I can give to other children is that you must follow your heart.
“If you want to be a fashion designer, it must be in you and you must enjoy it,” she said.
Her father, Thembani Mubochwa, who is also a fashion designer, was humbled by her daughter’s talent.
“I was humbled when Evelyn started to make her designs as a creative fashion designer.
“For the greater part of her life, she has been with me and my wife in the studio watching how we do it.
“The only difference between her and me is that she is yet to improve on the tailoring side of it,” he said.
Thembani added:
“As parents, we should always support our kids and make sure that they realise their dreams.
“This year alone, she has done wonders after featuring at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week where a musical group called Flying Bantu placed an order from her after they fell in love with her designs.”
He considers her recent invitation to Mozambique as the major highlight of her teething career.
