Zimbabwean artiste Tatenda Dikinya a.k.a Crimson Blu emerged tops in a South African music competition dubbed “U Can Do It” that is hosted and co-ordinated by popular kwaito star Arthur Mafokate. Speaking in a telephone interview after walking away with the top prize on August 22, the enraptured artiste who is riding on the fame of her new single “Love Her” confirmed the development saying that she was doing everything she can to represent and put Zimbabwe on the map.
“I gave one of my best performances to date and have done my best to represent Zimbabwe and make my country proud, you can watch my solo performance on YouTube, by typing this caption “UCanDoIt2013 Top 26 — Tendai,” said the elated artiste.
The programme “U Can Do It” searches for a group of five talented musicians who belt it out for a grand prize of R250 000 and a recording deal with Universal Records.
Crimson Blu started writing songs when she was about seven and professionally, her first recorded song was in 2008 done in a college bedroom studio, in Midrand, South Africa. She was part of a college crew called The Establishment. She went on to start a musical partnership with upcoming DJ Vinceno in 2009 who produced her first house single “Super Powers” and a second one titled “Too Cute to Dance”.
Both songs finally received airplay on YFM and Metro FM in 2010. She completed her studies in 2010, and came back to Zimbabwe.
She joined Rehab Entertainment in early 2011, doing several hip-hop/soul singles and collaborations. Music producer Shingai “Gwagz” Mugwagwa from Global Records congratulated Crimson Blu on her latest milestone saying that she has a phenomenal voice and writing skills as can be heard in her popular claim to fame single “Love Her”.
The producer also promised Zimbabweans a great summer project which included Crimson Blu and several other artistes like Savage, Sharky, Kid Aktive, Gudntentionz.
Crimson Blu also challenged Zimbabwean youths to be ambitious and follow their dreams.
“Shoot for the stars, if you fall, you will land on a cloud don’t let anyone discourage you because I am living proof that you can do whatever you set your heart to.”
