A ZIMBABWEAN man died after he was attacked by a crocodile, allegedly while on an illegal fishing expedition in South Africa.

According to News24, Gibson Mkhondo, 44, is suspected to have been attacked by a crocodile on Saturday while illegally fishing at Klipvoor Borakalalo Game Reserve in the North West Province of the neighbouring country.

South African police captain Paul Ramaloko said Mkhondo was heard screaming by his friends before his disappearance into the crocodile infested river.

“His friends say they heard sounds coming from the man’s boat. It was as if he was fighting with something. We suspect that he may have been taken by a crocodile as that dam is infested with the reptiles,” said Capt Ramaloko.

He said Mkhondo’s boat was found floating in the dam.

Police in South Africa have been searching for Mkhondo’s body since Sunday.

“Police were alerted to the incident on Sunday morning and a search was launched. The search is continuing today,” said Capt Ramaloko.
