Cross-Country championships kick off

THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) Cross-Country Championships are underway at Bindura University of Science Education in Mashonaland Central, with all 10 provinces participating.

A national team to represent Zimbabwe at the World Cross-Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, in the United States will be selected from today’s competition.

Both men and women in the youth, junior and senior categories are competing, all hoping to make the final squad.

Provincial pride is also at stake as teams battle for honours.

Top athletes expected to feature include Fortunate Chidzivo, Ethel Pangiso, Wayne Kabondo, Moses Tarakinyu, Tendai Zimuto and Blessing Watson, the 2003 champion.

Manu Mpofu

NAAZ director for coaching and talent identification, Manu Mpofu, said the event has attracted strong representation from across the country.
