ARMED robbers that hit Crystal Lounge in Bulawayo this morning, got away with US$4 300.
According to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the brazen robbery took that place at around 10AM on Sunday at the popular bar located at the corner of 13th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Way, left staff who were taken hostage, shaken.
Three unidentified gunmen stormed the premises just as staff were counting the morning’s takings. With chilling precision. The suspects held employees hostage at gunpoint, before grabbing US$4 300 in cold hard cash and vanishing without a trace.
“Police swiftly attended the scene and mobilised all the relevant sections,” said Comm Nyathi. “Unfortunately, the suspects had already fled.”
The robbery has sent shockwaves through the city’s nightlife circles.
Witnesses say the attack was over in minutes but felt like a lifetime. “It was like watching a movie, only real,” said one visibly shaken staff member. “They knew exactly what they wanted.”
The suspects reportedly made their escape before nearby shop owners even realised what had happened. By the time police arrived, the robbers had melted into the city’s maze of alleys and traffic.
Police have launched a full-scale manhunt.
