CSL soccer stars selected

SHABANIE Mine dominated the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) soccer stars list after a selection  conducted by journalists who covered the region’s games this season.

The selection which, was held at the region’s offices in Gweru, saw Shabanie Mine providing four players in the final 11 stars in the region.

The quartet of left back Ricky Bota, veteran Zvenyika Makonese, Erea Phiri and goalkeeper Joseph Fernando made it to the final list and so did the Blanket Mine duo of Simbarashe Zimora and Mthulisi Sibanda .

ZRP Gwanda goalkeeper Thandolwenkosi Moyo, the league top marksman Collen Moyo of Ivan Hoe, MSU’s Michael Bastos Chihowa and Kelvin Bingali of FC Platinum Under 19 complete the list of the best players in the CSL.

From the finalists selected, the soccer star of the year and the two runners up will be chosen and will be unveiled at the awards ceremony slated for Shurugwi tomorrow.

Also to be unveiled will be the goalkeeper of the year which will be a toss up between ZRP Gwanda goalie Thandolwenkosi Moyo and Joseph Fernando of Shabanie Mine.

The coach of the year, referee of the year, most disciplined player, the top goalscorer which will be awarded to Ivan Hoe’s Collen Moyo and his two runners up will be presented tomorrow.

At the ceremony champions Shabanie Mine will also be officially presented with their championship shield and gold medals.

CSL board member competitions Pithius Shoko who oversaw the selection process expressed satisfaction with the process.

“I want to thank members of the media for a job well done and I hope that in future, with resources permitting, we can widen our selection panel to also include coaches and the respective clubs’ captains,” he said.
