PREPARATIONS for the Corporate Social Responsibility business awards slated for August 19 at a local hotel are now at an advanced stage.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Network Zimbabwe – the organisers of the event – revealed this week that topachievers will be honoured in more than 20 categories.

The awards will see corporates and individuals in Manicaland and Masvingo Provinces being honoured for their outstanding corporate social responsibility programmes that are spurring community development in Zimbabwe.

The event will be held under the theme ‘The Role of Responsible Corporates in advancing the Devolution Agenda.’

“Companies encourage positive impact through their corporate social responsibility activities to achieve a sound devolution agenda.

“While profit generation remains the primary function of any business, the business’ impact on culture, society and the environment has been the subject of intense scrutiny in contemporary business policies and practice,” said the CSR Network Zimbabwe’s executive director, Mr Willard Razawo.

“The awards acknowledge CSR and sustainability efforts and contributions made by individuals, as well as the private and public sectors towards community development in Zimbabwe.

“Winners are mobilised from the diverse sectors and industries that have created positive impact in Zimbabwe’s sustainable development agenda and the attainment of Vision 2030,” saidMrRazawo.

In last year’s edition, individuals and companies who were awarded the CSR awards include The Manica Post’s Liberty Dube and Diamond FM’s Mercy Ngwebvu.

They scooped awards in the Excellence in Community Support category.

Rusape commercial farmer, Mr Shepherd Nyika, was the year’s Beacon of Philanthropy Award winner.

Businessman and musician, Mr Brian Samaita, won the Social Impact Award.

One of Vumba’s leading hotels, White Horse Inn, owned by Mr Frank Marembo, came out tops in the Business Sector category, while Willowton Group won the Social Impact and Environmental Compliance Award.
