adminHAVANA – More than 130,000 doctors have graduated from Cuban medical universities since 1961, the Cuban Prensa Latina news agency reported Tuesday.
More than 47,000 medical students are currently studying at universities nationwide, including 10,510 foreign students from 128 countries, according to Cuba’s Health Ministry.
Over 29,000 students are taking postgraduate courses in all medical specialties, ranging from neurosurgery to cardiovascular surgery, and over 95,000 students in another 13 medical sciences specialties and 24 technical fields, said Vice Health Minister, Marieta Cutino.
Tuesday marked the “Day of Latin American Medicine” in honor of Cuban doctor and scientist, Carlos Juan Finlay (1833-1915), who discovered how yellow fever was transmitted. – Xinhua.
