Preparations are on course in all provinces for the annual Culture Week celebrations that will take place nationally from May 17 to 24. The national launch of the programme takes place at Amphitheatre in Bulawayo on May 17.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe communications officer, Cathrine Mthombeni said the week-long programme’s theme will focus on cultural diversity.
“This year’s edition will be punctuated with diverse activities that depict on our varied unhu or ubuntu as well as cultivate in us a sense of belonging hence instilling pride.
“It will be run under the theme: “Promoting Cultural Diversity and Inclusion” and is drawn to be in line with key cultural foundations of the New Constitution as well as the Government development blue print, the ZimAsset,” she said.
Mthombeni said the launch marks the beginning of the celebration of the importance of cultural diversity throughout the country through various cultural and artistic expressions.
The national official Culture Week launch is a national event coordinated by NACZ head office and implemented by the hosting province in which this year it is Bulawayo metropolitan. Some of the activities done at the official launch include street marching by artists and cultural activists, fashion show, music and dance performances, art and craft exhibition and herbal medicine exhibitions. The commemorations bring together women’s groups, the youth and people with disabilities.
