Zimbabwe have made one notable selection call for the opening T20 International against Bangladesh at Queens Sports Club, leaving out in-form top-order batter Ben Curran as the hosts opted for a balanced side featuring five recognised all-rounders.
Curran, who enjoyed a productive One Day International series against Bangladesh earlier this month, does not feature in the starting XI, with Zimbabwe instead backing Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani at the top of the order before Dion Myers and captain Sikandar Raza anchor the middle order.
Ryan Burl, Milton Shumba, Clive Madande, Tashinga Musekiwa and Brad Evans complete a batting unit that offers considerable depth, while Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani spearhead the pace attack.
The inclusion of Evans and Musekiwa gives Zimbabwe additional all-round options alongside Raza, Bennett and Burl, suggesting the hosts are looking to maximise flexibility in both the batting and bowling departments.
Bangladesh have also named a balanced XI, with captain Towhid Hridoy leading a batting line-up that includes Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Nurul Hasan and Yasir Ali.
Their attack combines express pace with spin, with Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana and Mohammad Saifuddin leading the seam department, while Mahedi Hasan and Nasum Ahmed provide spin options.
On paper, both sides appear to have prioritised versatility. Zimbabwe’s XI features several players capable of contributing with both bat and ball, while Bangladesh have selected a bowling attack built around genuine pace complemented by two spin-bowling all-rounders.
With both teams fielding balanced line-ups, the opening match of the three-match series promises to provide an early indication of whose selection strategy proves the more effective.
