FIREWORKS are expected at Donnybrook raceway in Harare tomorrow when over 65 riders converge for the last national motocross race meeting.
The event will be used by the Bogwheelers Club, who run the motorcycling sport of motocross in this country, to determine the national champion and top rider for 2014.

Riders will also use the event to prepare for the Monster Energy Supercross Africa, which has been dubbed the greatest Supercross event ever staged in Africa, and will be held at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, South Africa, on November 1.

Bogwheelers Club chairman, Shaun Whyte, said motorsport enthusiasts were in for a treat as tomorrow’s racing is bound to be explosive.

“I am expecting at least 65 riders and racing will be done in all the classes from the Pewee class up to the 450cc class.

“We are expecting thrilling performances from all riders as the stakes in this race meetings are really high in all the classes.

“This is our sixth and final national race meeting so it is a huge deal for the riders themselves as there is pressure to leave a lasting mark and close the season strongly.

“We will also be able to determine the top national champion based on which rider accumulates the highest points.

“The race meeting will also serve as a preparatory platform as we are already beginning the build up to another high-profile calendar event – the Monster Energy Supercross Africa slotted for November 1 in South Africa and the Summer Series set for December 10, 12 and 14 this year,” said Whyte.

The usual suspects are expected to be leading the pack with Reagan Wasmuth the man to beat in the MX2 class.

Tanya Muzinda will have to buckle up as she will be going head to head with fierce contenders Kuda Mhene (Jnr), Mudiwa Chigumbu and Davin Cocker in the 65cc A Class.

Nine-year-old Big “BJ” Chitima (Jnr), who rode brilliantly in the last national race meeting at the same venue a fortnight ago, is also expected to come out with all his guns blazing in the 65cc A Class.

In another potentially explosive race, Daiyaan Manuel will take on Ryan Masimo and Emmanuel Bako in the 50cc class and these three young riders are really a joy to watch whenever they get onto to the track at Donnybrook.

Manuel (9), who is a crowd favourite, recently raised the national flag high when he was crowned South Africa national champion in the 50cc pro Class last week.

Tafadzwa Mawarire will be up against stiff competition in the 125cc Class when he takes on the likes of Wade Ashwell for the top spot.

Reigning MX1 champion Jayden Ashwell, who never fails to impress with his daredevil tactics, will not be looking to relinquish his title in his class, making that race another must see.

Entrance fee for tomorrow’s event has been pegged at US$5 per car and there will be full bar and catering.
