adminMupakaviri (41) and Pair Trade Investment agent Tiki Tarwirei (39) were granted US$1 000 bail apiece, coupled with stringent conditions.
They appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma on Friday facing allegations of contravening sections of the Water Act and the Environmental Management Act.
Mupakaviri was ordered to surrender his passport and to report twice at Law and Order Harare Central Police Station while Tarwirei will be reporting at Law and Order Mutare Central.
Their accomplices, Farai Muchenje and Simon Demhe, have since appeared in court facing the same charge. The State says Mupakaviri is responsible for the company’s activities, while Tarwirei who is based at Forbes border post, Mutare, is responsible for the clearance of all hazardous or toxic consignments of LA cargo with Environmental Management Agency.
Appearing for the State, Mr Tungamirai Chakurira, alleged that on July 16, Demhe left Beira, Mozambique, with a Cure Chem Overseas Private Ltd consignment of 19 580kg of sodium cyanide.
On July 19, it is alleged, the consignment was cleared in Zimbabwe at Forbes Border Post, Mutaree by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.
It is alleged Demhe connived with Tarwirei and they did not follow Environment Management Agency mandatory procedures of clearing the consignment.
