Districts to be affected include, Chipinge, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, Beitbridge, Chivu, Masvingo Rural, Zaka and Bikita.
Government through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has already ordered schools in the above mentioned areas including Harare Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central to temporary close.
Freddy is expected to head West-South-West and in less than 36 hours, reach its final peak intensity of around 110 km/h (60 knots, severe Tropical Storm stage.
The Met department said Cyclone Freddy is characterized with heavy rainfall and strong winds.
“It’s expected to hit south of Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland from Thursday evening 23 to Sunday 26 February 2023.
“It is characterized by very localized heavy rains and flash flooding,”
The cyclone left 16,660 people displaced and damaged nearly 5,000 homes in Madagascar on Tuesday.
