Cyclone Ree fails to satisfy audience

AFTER much hype in the build-up to her debut appearance on the decks, former model Cyclone Ree (real name Lungile Mathe) failed to deliver at Eden Night Club last Friday. After a flesh exposing teaser on tabloid newspaper B-Metro a few weeks back, the controversial former Miss Tourism Zimbabwe’s Miss Personality got club patrons even more excited when she hinted at the possibility of her going topless for her first appearance in the DJ’s booth.

However, those who were waiting in anticipation for another impromptu striptease from the former model were left to nurse their disappointment as the novice DJ manned the decks without much incident throughout her hour-long set.

Clad in bright yellow lingerie, Cyclone Ree performed alongside another female DJ Noma That Girl in front of a sizeable crowd at the joint on a night that was dedicated to ladies. The excitement had started with the Zimbabwe Fashion Week Lingerie Party which was held earlier in the night.

The show also coincided with the Halloween theme that ran throughout the weekend at the joint.

While the striptease that never was enough disappointment for some, Cyclone Ree’s modest abilities on the decks also came under the spotlight. She did not cover herself in glory, as many felt that her performance failed to inject the much needed excitement into a night where her performance had been billed as the act to watch.

The main bone of contention for those on the dancefloor was that she seemed inactive and lifeless behind the decks, leading to the suspicion that she was playing a pre recorded mix. Some felt cheated as they had expected a more original and daring performance from the model who has not been one to shy away from a challenge in the past.

To her credit Cyclone Ree did not pander to the usual tastes of local club lovers, staying away from the house, dancehall and South African hip hop hits that have become the staple of local DJs in clubs. She played a set of mainly electro hits, bringing a different flavour to a night that had previously been dominated by the aforementioned genres.

Despite the misgivings of some at the joint, the former model was warmly received after her set as she openly mingled with admirers.
