South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday, 13 July, address the neighbouring nation regarding national security concerns raised in a recent statement by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

The announcement follows a media briefing held on Sunday, 6 July, during which Lt-Gen Mkhwanazi made serious allegations implicating senior figures within the political leadership and the South African Police Service.

At the time of the briefing, President Ramaphosa was attending a BRICS summit in Brazil. He committed to addressing the matter upon his return, citing its serious implications for national security.

According to a statement from the South African Presidency, President Ramaphosa has been fully engaged with the issue in recent days, holding consultations ahead of his scheduled address.

“The President will take the nation into his confidence following various consultations,” read the statement.
The address will be broadcast and streamed live across multiple platforms.
