D Knights eye B’ball national championships glory

DANGAMVURA Knights will represent Manicaland at the annual Basketball Union of Zimbabwe National Championships, which begin tomorrow (Thursday).

Matches will take place at Mutare Boys High courts and Florida Mwenje courts, with Dangamvura Knights playing their group matches at the latter.

The team, fondly referred to as D Knights, has bolstered its squad with talented players from Harare, including Tinashe Njovo and Gilbert ‘Biggie’ Maida. They join gifted players like Ngoniya Muzulu and team captain.

Coach Tonderai Shasha expressed confidence in his team’s ability to make an impact.

“We are more than prepared for this competition. We have been here before, and we believe we have what it takes to succeed. Playing at home will be an added advantage,” he said.

Defending champions UZ Sparks, Kushinga (Mashonaland East), BUSE Panthers (Mashonaland Central), Bulawayo teams Lakers Mzansi and NUST Phoenix, Manicaland’s Wolves, and Harare teams Bunnies and Vixens will compete in the ladies’ category.

The men’s category features defending champions Basket Hounds (Harare), Marondera Lions (Mash East), BUSE Panthers (Mash Central), Victoria Falls Panthers (Matebeleland North), Mimosa Celtics (Midlands), Giants (Bulawayo), hosts Dangamvura Knights (Manicaland), and Harare teams JBC, Mbare Bulls, and Acadia Bucs.
