DA acquitted of assaulting villagers

Jecheche, who was represented by Gweru lawyer Mr Hilary Garikai of Garikai and Company Associates, could be seen with a huge smile on his face from the dock soon after Mrs Mashiri passed the ruling.

This was after the two complainants in the alleged case, one Mr Simbarashe Mutanhuri and Mr Lovemore Mapengo, all from Chirumanzu communal lands had failed to bring in witnesses and provide medical proof to confirm that they were indeed assaulted by Jecheche.

Jecheche is the former DA for Mvuma.

For the State, Mr Andrew Marimo, told the court that on 22 January last year, Jecheche met Mr Mutanhuri at Toriro Supermarket, Mvuma.

The court heard that Jecheche who was suspecting Mr Mutanhuri of poaching and killing beasts in his farm then started assaulting Mr Mutanhuri with open hands.

The court heard that Jecheche went on to pick a broom in the supermarket, which he then used to assault Mr Mutanhuri all over the body.

Mr Marimo said Jecheche also met Mr Mapengo on 8 March last year whom he also suspected to be part of the syndicate, which was conducting the alleged poaching activities at his farm.

He said Jecheche again assaulted Mapengo with open hands causing body harm.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Jecheche.
