Dabuka express gives life skills to youngsters

DABUKA Express Sports Consultancy last week held  a three-day educational training camp at St Columbus High meant to help up and coming footballers. 

With an aim of equipping young players with the necessary skills critical in their careers, the Consultancy partnered with yesteryear players like Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda, Richard Choruma, Johannes Ngodzo, Voster Chitema, Danisa Phiri, Hebert Dick among others to provide expertise advice.

Realising that many young players’ careers suffer a still birth and succumb to drug abuse without taking off, Dabuka Express Consultancy saw the need to facilitate an educational camp.

“The general idea is to help up and coming footballers on how to take football as a career, help them know what a contract is and how to sign it, the challenges that come with the game like handling the pressure and still perform. How to handle the fame and avoid drug abuse which is the worst enemy in many of these boy’s careers,” said Dabuka Express Sports Consultancy spokesperson, Mayfield Daka.

Football being a short span career and life after football seemingly longer and tougher, former players were equally excited to have an opportunity to impart their knowledge to youngsters.

“This is very important because we don’t only teach them about playing the game only, we go deep into different things that you come across as a player and its good we have been there we know the difficulties associated with the game as a player,” said Phiri.

The training programme was hailed by Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube who has played an active role over the years in grassroots football as key to youngsters in understanding contractual obligations in the deals they sign.

“It is very important for the youngsters to know how to handle contracts and also think things through before signing a particular contract,” Ncube said.

Dabuka Express Sports Consultancy hopes to carry on their drive to other towns like Plumtree and Gweru.
