Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm that we are dealing with a case in which a man struck his 10-month-old baby with a log on the head and she died on the spot,” he said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 8pm when Julius had a misunderstanding with his wife Sinikiwe Phiri (23). He started beating Phiri and a neighbour Robert Phiri, heard noise from the house and went to investi- gate.
He restrained Julius but when he returned to his house, Julius started beating his wife again while she was breastfeeding with open hands before picking a log from the fire intending to hit her.
But he missed the intended target and instead hit the child who fell unconscious.
