Four suspected armed robbers arrested

from the local authority’s treasury department.
The quartet was picked up by police on Monday morning.

However, the guard has been admitted at Beitbridge District Hospital after he was assaulted by detectives during interrogation. He sustained swollen feet and is passing urine with blood.
Three other suspects are Tsepani Dube (33), the town treasurer along with officers in the treasury Memory Moyo (28) and Ntuseni Mulingisi (37).
They appeared before magistrate Mr Carrington Karidzagundi yesterday charged with armed robbery.
They are denying the charges.

Through their lawyer, Mr David Mhiribidi of Phulu and Ncube they unsuccessfully applied for refusal of remand.
They were all remanded in custody to September 15.
Prosecutor Mr Foster Abheki told the court that the suspects, who are all employed by Beitbridge rural district council in the treasury department, connived with other suspects who are still at large to steal

from the local authority.
They supplied the other accomplices with information of the large amounts of money held by the local authority and where it was kept.
He further said Dube, Moyo and Mlungisi were the ones dealing with the stolen money and did all the planning for the break in. A total of US$200 000 was stolen from the council’s strong room after armed

robbers overpowered the security guard on Monday.
