WHILE the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) typically experiences a slow start on the first day, attracting larger crowds as the week progresses, Malawian exhibitors are a notable exception.
Their stands become a constant sensation from day one, drawing throngs of visitors interested in discovering natural remedies for various health concerns. Fuelled by the common perception of foreign remedies being more effective, visitors flock to her stand in search of potential aphrodisiacs, which were sold both in powder form and juices.
The most sought-after aphrodisiac was “Dad Must Cry”, believed to improve male sexual performance and heighten emotional connection during intimacy. Despite doctors’ warnings about the potential dangers of overusing libido-boosting herbs, some men still seek them out in the hope of enhancing their sexual performance.
During separate interviews, exhibitors who visited the stand expressed interest in the cocktail of herbs, roots and traditional medicines, citing their potential to boost libido, sexual potency and sexual pleasure. Additionally, they also inquired about the herbs’ ability to cure a wide range of illnesses.
Hilton Dube from Harare said he made sure that he will never miss Malawian stand this year following a friend’s recommendation of their potent herbs.
“Achieving orgasm for women can be challenging for many men. That’s why I’m here at this stand, hoping to find those highly-touted, sex-enhancing herbs from Malawi. A friend told me they’re more effective than local options, where some vendors sell fakes.
“Every man wants to be a satisfying sexual partner. That’s why I’m here this year. Last year, I arrived on the second day and missed out on most products. So, I made sure to come on opening day. While some might be seeking to enhance their enjoyment, most men here have libido issues and they are looking for solutions,” said Dube.

A woman visiting the stand also confided in this reporter that, despite being married for over a decade, she has never felt sexually fulfilled. She expressed a desire to understand the factors contributing to female sexual satisfaction.
“I came here to buy these Malawian herbs for my husband, hoping to increase his libido. We’ve been married for over a decade and intimacy has become a challenge. I heard these herbs can be very effective and the number of people here seems to confirm that,” she said.
In an interview with B-Metro, an exhibitor at the stand, Tarisirai Takesure expressed satisfaction with the turnout.
“We’ve been delighted by the steady stream of visitors to our stand since the ZITF began. It’s a great opportunity for people to have an immersive experience with our products. We offer a wide range of traditional and herbal medicines that can boost sexual performance, treat various ailments and enhance the immune system. These medicines come in both powdered and juice forms. Notably, most visitors to our stand have been men interested in our powerful aphrodisiacs or herbal sex enhancers, such as Badzuka drink, Mondia, Mvunguti and Gondolozi.
“Take Badzuka, for example. It cleanses the immune system. Simply add it to your porridge or tea, but avoid sugar. It’s best taken two hours before bedtime. We also offer herbs specifically for women to cleanse the uterus and enhance their sexual health,” said Takesure.
She said “Dad Must Cry” was the most popular herb chosen by customers. Adding that it was known for its reputation as a libido enhancer.
“This one enhances male potency and evokes emotional release during intimacy,” she said.
Another exhibitor, Elizabeth Nkhwazi, explained that their products were popular because they can help increase libido in both men and women, while also offering relief for a variety of ailments.
“There are many of us Malawian exhibitors here, showcasing a variety of products that seem to be a hit with visitors. We’re thrilled with the positive response we’re receiving. We offer a range of products, including herbs for various ailments, rice, honey, peanuts and beans. Many people tell us that these Malawian products have a superior natural taste due to our focus on organic farming,” said Nkhwazi.
