A SEKE man who allegedly raped his two minor daughters almost on a daily basis for three consecutive years last week appeared at the Chitungwiza magistrates’ courts.
The man from Mayambara Village in Seke denied the charges against him when his trial opened before the town’s regional magistrate Mr Temba Kuwanda who deferred the trial to March 3 this year for continuation.
The man will be in custody.
Prosecutor Miss Concelia Mahere told the court that the man who divorced his wife, raped his two daughters who were aged five and eight nearly every day between February 2006 and February 2009.
It is alleged the man shared a single room with his two daughters and slept on the same bed with them. He allegedly took advantage of the sleeping arrangements to sexually abuse his daughters and would thereafter beat them up so that they could not report the matter to anyone.
The victims yesterday testified in camera and told the court their father inflicted great pain when he raped them and only got used to it as time progressed.
Sometime in 2008 the children disclosed their ordeal when they visited their step-grandmother who lives in Unit C Seke, Chitungwiza. The grandmother did not take any action to help the minors but discussed the matter with family members who advised her not to do anything about it since it would lead to the arrest of the man.
A medical affidavit produced as an exhibit in court revealed that the girls had sores all over their bodies, and lower limbs. It also confirmed that physical damage was inflicted on the girls’ genitals. On 25 February 2009, the suspect’s sister got wind of the allegations and reported the matter to the Department of Social Welfare but no measures were taken to help the girls.
The woman then approached another woman and neighbour of her brother and discussed the issue. She was advised to report the matter to the police leading to the arrest of her brother. – CR
