A Harare man forced his 28-year-old son to drink beer mixed with unknown herbs and a drug meant for mental illness, before sodomising him when he got drunk on different occasions during a period spanning over a decade, the court heard yesterday.
The 49-year-old man (name withheld to protect victim) was charged with aggravated indecent assault when he appeared before magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo. He was denied bail and will be back in court on April 17.
Allegations are that on an unknown date, but during the month of November 2005, the victim woke up one night and found his father sleeping in the same blankets with him, holding him tightly.
It is alleged that the victim tried to push the man away and was ordered to keep quiet.
The court heard that the suspect stopped doing this for four years and restarted it in 2010. It is alleged that he would put natural herbs in beer and force his son to drink.
It is the State’s case that the suspect would also buy trifluperazine tablets for the son to drink, stating that he was mad. Trifluoperazine is an anti-psychotic medicine.
The suspect would sodomise his son after giving him the drugs.
The court heard that on another day in 2015, the son woke up and found out that his T-shirt was torn and his mouth was swollen.
It is alleged that after a day, the naked suspect went to the son’s bedroom and held him tightly. The son, it is alleged, didn’t ask the suspect about his actions because he was afraid of being killed.
The court heard that the suspect threatened the complainant with death if he refused to take trifluperazine tablets and if he reported the matter to the police.
