Dagga bust: Police seize 62kg after bus chase

Sunday News Correspondent

Masvingo police on Sunday intercepted a haul of 62 kgs of dagga hidden in a bus along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway.

The successful bust was made possible by a timely tip-off, which led detectives to stop the bus around 10 am.

When police signalled the bus to pull over, the driver, Tonderai Mafo, initially sped away. However, the bus was pursued and eventually stopped about a kilometre down the road.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrest and commended the swift action of the detectives involved. This significant seizure highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in combating illicit activities.

Four individuals were taken into custody – Tonderai Mafo, 48, the bus driver from Nkulumane in Bulawayo; Allen Mberikunashe, 25, the conductor from Victoria Ranch, Masvingo; Paulina Mudakuvaka, 36, from Ruwa, Harare and Alice Mutanda, 68, from Glenview, Harare.
