A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Kwekwe was arraigned before the magistrate on allegations of rape.
The accused person appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court.
According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused person and the complainant are not related.
“Allegations are that sometime in September 2024 at around 3pm the accused person dragged the 10-year-old girl into an unfinished building where he told her that he wanted to have sexual relations with her,” reads the statement.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she screamed or told anyone and then removed her clothes before raping her.
The accused person only stopped when he heard a voice calling the complainant’s name.
“Other allegations says on the 14th of September 2024 at around 8pm the accused person cut off his manhood with a knife whilst screaming that the complainant was his wife,” said the NPAZ.
The matter came to light when the complainant confided in her grandmother about the offence.
The NPAZ made an application for the accused person to be examined by two doctors in terms of Mental Health Act and application was granted.
The accused person was remanded from a hospital bed in Gweru where he is receiving medical attention, will appear before the court on the 8th of October 2024.
