ONE of Zimbabwe’s top junior motocross riders Daiyaan Manuel is today expected to arrive in Germany where he will join two of that country’s top clubs RMC Reutlingen and MSC Waldkappel for a two-week training stint ahead of the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championship which will be held here in Harare at the end of this month.
Manuel, a 10-year-old Grade Five pupil at St John’s Preparatory School in Harare, will be accompanied by his father and trainer, Junior, and he will first join RMC Reutlingen at Reutlingen, a town which is just outside Stuttgart, for his first training stint.
Junior Manuel yesterday confirmed that they will be flying to Germany from London this morning.
After training at RMC Reutlingen, Daiyaan will then join MSC Waldkappel from August 17 to 24 for another week-long training stint before he returns to Zimbabwe for his final preparations for the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championship which will be held at Donnybrook Raceway in Harare on August 29.
The FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations Championship is an annual event which attracts top junior and senior riders from seven African countries — Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
This year’s event was initially supposed to be hosted by Botswana but they passed on the baton to Zimbabwe who gladly accepted to stage it and this will see scores of top junior and senior motocrossers from Africa descending on Harare during the weekend of August 27-29 for this exciting continental event.
A host of top Zimbabwean motocross riders will also be in action during this event and they include young Daiyaan, last year’s 50cc Pro champion in South Africa who is now heading to Germany for his training stints at RMC Reutlingen and MSC Waldkappel in the next two weeks.
His trip to Germany was facilitated by the GeBe Education and Sports Foundation, a German non-profit organisation who also have a base in Cape Town, South Africa.
