Los Angeles. – Two-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fienne was outshone on the red carpet by red-hot Zimbabwean actress Danai Gurira.
Ralph Fiennes was honoured for his 22-year body of work at a Gala Tribute as part of the 51st New York Film Festival on Wednesday night.
The star of such movies as “Schindler’s List” and “Wuthering Heights” joined invited guests for a special sit-down conversation as well as a US premiere screening of his new film, “The Invisible Woman”, at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Centre.
The 50-year-old looked suitably dapper in his navy blue suit, black shirt and shiny black dress shoes. But while he may have been the guest of honour, Danai – who stars as butt-kicking, katana sword-wielding zombie, apocalypse survivor Michonne in “The Walking Dead” – was simply stunning in her ruby red lace gown, which fell just below her knees.
The sexy form-fitting number flashed just the right amount of flesh, with her black bra peeking through the sheer material and a white underlay covering her modesty from the chest down.
The 35-year-old paired her outfit with strappy black stilettos and a matching clutch, while smokey black eyes and a slick of red lippie completed her look.
Also turning up to support the acclaimed actor was legendary singer Patti Smith, screenwriter John Ridley and Fiennes’ “Invisible Woman” co-star Joanna Scanlan.
Scanlan, who stars as Catherine Dickens in the film alongside Ralph as famed British author Charles Dickens, looked pretty in her black and violet dress with matching purple bolero as she cuddled up to her on-screen husband.
Meanwhile, Rose Kuo, the Film Society of Lincoln Centre’s executive director, said of the tribute: “In just his third screen role, Ralph Fiennes’ performance as the monstrous Amon Goeth in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Schindler’s List’ terrified audiences with its personification of evil.
“Since then, Mr Fiennes has brilliantly embodied the larger-than-life creations of writers such as Shakespeare, Dickens and Graham Greene, among others, and given us an extraordinary body of work to celebrate.
“The Film Society is excited to honour him at this year’s New York Film Festival not only as an actor, but as the director of ‘The Invisible Woman’ – truly one of the noteworthy films of the year.” “The Invisible Woman” is Fiennes’ second directorial offering, following 2011’s BAFTA-nominated Coriolanus.
Based on the book by Claire Tomalin, it depicts the illicit and long-running affair between Dickens and much-younger actress Nelly Ternan, played by Felicity Jones.
Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett was previously celebrated during the Film Festival on October 2. – Daily Mail.
