The National Dance Association of Zimbabwe (Ndaz) is set to celebrate International Dance Day on 26 April in Harare. The commemorations, to be held at Kuwadzana 1 High School, will showcase both contemporary and traditional dances.
The event will also feature a dance competition with groups such as Dancing Machine, Team Exterminators, Blackbird Entertainment, Dreams, 5th Warrior, Massive Empire and Deceptorcons expected to battle it out on stage.
The winners will walk away with US$200, while the second and third-placed groups will receive US$100 and US$50 respectively. In addition to the prize money, all top three groups will receive trophies, medals and certificates.
Ndaz president Farai Meki said the association is using this year’s celebration to honour excellence in the dance industry while also marking its 10th anniversary, a milestone for the organisation.
“Dance can be a powerful tool for building and promoting Zimbabwe’s rich culture. The advantages of this celebration include promoting cultural exchange and appreciation, fostering unity and cooperation among dance enthusiasts, providing a platform for talented dancers to showcase their skills, and celebrating the impact of dance on Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.
“Ndaz is also commemorating its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of remarkable contributions to the dance sector,” said Meki.
