Palestine condemns killing of journalists

The Embassy of the State of Palestine in Zimbabwe has condemned the horrific killing of two Palestinian journalists in Gaza in an Israeli missile strike, as violence against members of the Press continues to escalate.

Journalists Helmi Al-Faqaawi and Yousef al-Khazinda were killed, while Ahmed Mansour was burnt alive after a missile struck a journalists’ tent at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.

In a statement, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri said the attack has pushed the number of journalists killed in Gaza by Israeli forces to more than 210.

Ambassador Almassri described the attack as a “heinous crime” and a “deliberate and systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists.”

“This is a blatant attempt to enforce a complete media blackout, preventing the world from witnessing the scale and brutality of Israel’s genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people,” he said.

Ambassador Almassri lambasted the international community for its “deafening silence” and “inaction,” and said the failure to hold Israel accountable has emboldened its military to continue its campaign with impunity.

“International laws and agreements designed to protect human rights have become meaningless in the face of ongoing crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation,” he said.

“The right to life, education, health, and other fundamental rights have been stripped away from Palestinians, who are subjected to brutal killing machines, banned chemical weapons, and unimaginable suffering.”

He urged all nations to uphold justice, human rights and international law by taking immediate action against what he termed Israel’s “relentless criminal machine.”

Ambassador Almassri reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s determination to continue their struggle.

“Palestinians will remain steadfast in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and will never raise the white flag in the face of Israel’s apartheid and genocidal policies,” he said.
