TALK show host , Portia Sunhwa, has opened dance classes to raise awareness towards mental health and drug abuse.

Inspired by her struggles with depression for a year-and-half, Portia saw it fit to share the remedies she used to overcome her period of uncertainty.

In an interview with H-Metro, she said there will be donations of sanitary wear, which will be distributed in churches, to cater for those who cannot afford to buy.

The sessions will also be coupled with open tables where people share testimonies of how they overcame depression and drug abuse.

“I never had that privilege to, at least, have someone to listen to my story when I was in the depths of depression for a year-and-a-half.

“Though I have recovered, I saw it necessary to also come up with the dance classes idea so as to provide a platform where people openly speak while having fun. The testimonials from various individuals will make someone realise that they are not alone.

“I witnessed a woman who turned 38 but had never used a pad in her life because she could not afford them.

“This really touched me and I told myself that every person must also donate, at least, two packets of pads when joining the class to make a difference in someone’s life,” said Portia.
