Dancehall singers Sniper Storm, Shinsoman, Kinna and Seh Calaz are billed to perform in Epworth on Sunday at Zimunhu Bar in what could be one of the best shows so far. Performances start at 4pm till late with chanters taking turns in the battle to entertain. Sniper Storm aka “The General” is no stranger at Zimunhu Bar. His last show early this year at the joint drew huge crowds.
This weekend the “Love Yemusoja” hitmaker is expected to take his act a notch up and prove to all and sundry that he is the man of the moment.
Previously, he has been featuring at the Lion Lager Activation Campus Nights where he thrilled students. Those who love Zimbabwean dancehall will tell you that Sniper Storm is one of the best talents to emerge in the genre.
Most of his songs have positive message although here and there he makes it a habit of including humour.
For instance, his 2003 hit “Hubhinya” lambasts men who rape their girlfriends, daughters and even wives. As much as he calls himself “Musoja” or soldier, Sniper Storm says he stands for what is right and this is the theme in most of his songs.
You talk of “Mwari Ndibatsirei”, “Wainira Musoja” and “Kwarira Mukati” all these tracks are danceable, but at the same time they are pregnant with messages.
On the other hand, Shinsoman has seized the dancehall scene by the throat with his chart topper “Mawaya Waya”. The song is receiving heavy rotation on the airwaves and also earned Shinsoman a place in the history of Zimbabwean dancehall.
Whenever he takes to the stage, he effortless delivers the song as the crowd sings along.
Recently, he collaborated with another rising singer, Killah T, from Mbare. The two also thrilled the crowd at the last editionof the Campus Night gigs in the Harare Gardens.
Another artiste to watch out for at the gig is Seh Calaz. who is brewing quite a storm with his controversial lyrics. The youngster, who some think is an attention seeker, after hurling pot shots at Winky D, is full of energy.
Despite his scathing attacks on Winky D, some people are warming up to his music in a surprising way. There is no doubt that his fans will be looking forward to seeing him on stage.
Luckson Zimunhu, the show promoter, said fans should also expect fireworks at the gig since it will be dancehall throughout the night.
“We are hoping to stage a memorable gig on Sunday and there is an upcoming artiste called Kinna who is going to curtain-raise at the show. As much as we have established names we also want to expose the new ones,” he said.
